À l’arrivée du printemps, de nombreux Québécois songent à remplacer leur voiture par un modèle plus récent ou à faire l’acquisition du bolide de leurs rêves. Voici cinq questions que vous devriez vous poser avant tout achat afin de faire le meilleur choix possible.

Neuf ou usagé ?

Vu qu’une voiture perd plus du tiers de sa valeur dans la première année, acheter un véhicule d’occasion est une option intéressante. Au Québec, vous bénéficiez d’excellentes garanties pour vous protéger des vendeurs peu scrupuleux. Le vendeur doit afficher un prix tout-inclus et le kilométrage, et vous faire part de tout défaut. Il doit vous permettre aussi de faire un essai routier et une inspection, ce qui vous permet de confirmer le bon état de la mécanique et de la carrosserie. Si l’inspection n’est pas concluante, il doit vous rembourser le dépôt.

Acheter d’un particulier ou d’un commerce ?

Si vous achetez un véhicule d’occasion, comparez les prix attentivement. Il est parfois plus avantageux de faire affaire avec un particulier, au niveau du prix et de l’état de la voiture, surtout si le propriétaire l’a bien entretenu. Assurez-vous que le vendeur n’est pas un faux particulier, un commerçant qui se fait passer pour le propriétaire du véhicule. Si le véhicule n’est pas assuré ou immatriculé, ça devrait vous mettre la puce à l’oreille. 

Car Proof ou SAAQ ?

Si vous songez toujours à faire l’achat d’un véhicule d’occasion, consultez l’Office de la protection du consommateur afin de voir si le marchand a reçu des plaintes. Ensuite, envoyez une demande de dossier à la SAAQ pour avoir l’historique des transactions et propriétaires du véhicule. Vous pouvez aussi commander un rapport de CarProof pour 50$ afin de voir si le véhicule a été impliqué dans un accident, volé ou trafiqué. Enfin, n’oubliez pas de vérifier au RDPRM que la voiture n’est pas rattachée à une dette quelconque.

Achat ou location ?

Pour les véhicules neufs, l’achat du véhicule, sans financement ou en paiement accéléré, est ce qu’il y a de plus économique. La location est un bon choix si vous ne pouvez pas vous passer de changer tous les deux ans. Les concessionnaires font la bonne affaire en offrant du financement sur six ans et des mensualités alléchantes, mais ce sont les consommateurs qui en paient les frais, car ils devront payer les intérêts pendant tout ce temps. Si vos finances ne vous permettent pas de payer en argent comptant, vous pouvez aussi chercher un modèle moins récent mais sous garantie afin de réduire votre montant d’emprunt.
